A pregnant woman has been shot dead. Two other persons were injured. This occurred following a gun attack at Zoya, near Sakplengebaani in the Zabzugu District of the Northern Region. The gunmen reportedly attacked the victims. They were all heading to the hospital in Zabzugu for a routine medical check-up. The pregnant woman killed is known as Naaadar. However, two others, Tannanja Mmeili and Dawuni Nidibi, were injured.
The incident occurred on Saturday at about 7:00 p.m. on the Zabzugu-Zoya road. Abdulai Babamu Sandoo is a youth leader and community member of Zoya. He confirmed the incident. He also mentioned that Zoya has become a target area for armed robbery.
Some of the residents in Zabzugu Township expressed worry. They are concerned about rampant robbery and motorbike snatching. There are also other criminal activities in the area.
The situation has made people in the area fearful. There is panic due to the rampant crimes in the area. Farmers using that stretch are afraid to go about their duties. Women are also fearful because of the activities of criminal gangs.
An appeal has been made to the local authorities. Security agencies are urged to unite and fight crime in the area.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Tamale Teaching Hospital mortuary.
