Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the Interior Minister and Member of Parliament for Asawase, has assured that authorities are actively investigating the murder of Naa Abdul-Malik Azenbe, the Kusasi Chief of the Ashanti Region. The Minister pledged that that responsible will be identified and held accountable.
The Kusasi Chief, who also served as the Chief of the Kadi Divisional Area in Binduri, was tragically shot and killed by unknown assailants on the night of Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at his residence near the Asawase F-line community centre.
According to eyewitnesses, two men arrived on a motorbike around 8:40 p.m. One of them, armed with an AK-47 rifle, opened fire on Azenbe before both assailants fled the scene.

In a statement released on Wednesday, July 23, the Asawase MP condemned the murder as a “heinous act” that has wounded the peace and security of the nation. He reassured the public that the perpetrators would be held accountable and brought to justice.
“I want to assure the family and the people of Ghana that our security agencies are fully committed to ensuring that the perpetrators of this crime are swiftly apprehended and made to face the full rigours of the law,” said Mohammed-Mubarak.
The Interior Minister emphasised the Ministry’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and urged residents of the Asawase area to cooperate with law enforcement to ensure justice is served.
“We remain resolute in protecting every citizen and upholding the rule of law. I call on all residents, particularly within the Asawase constituency and its environs, to remain calm and cooperate with the security agencies by providing any information that may assist in the ongoing investigations,” he stated.
The Minister extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the Kusasi community in the Ashanti Region, and the entire traditional leadership of the Kusaug area during this difficult time.
