In collaboration with the Member of Parliament for the area and the leadership of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Mr Akurugo revealed plans to roll out these motivational packages. As a nurse by profession, the DCE emphasized the need for these measures to encourage nurses and midwives to stay in the district and contribute to its healthcare system.

Mr Akurugo also announced plans to offer scholarships for nurses and midwives to pursue specialist courses in critical areas of their profession, further enhancing service delivery. This initiative aims to bridge the human resource gap, particularly at the District Hospital, and attract more healthcare professionals to the region.

The DCE reiterated the importance of primary healthcare delivery and assured the GRNMA leadership of the District Assembly’s continued collaboration with the Ghana Health Service to achieve Universal Health Coverage. His office remains open for meaningful dialogue and cooperation with health stakeholders to improve healthcare in the district.

Mr Akurugo encouraged healthcare professionals, especially nurses and midwives, to consider political leadership while maintaining their ethical standards. He urged them to stay dedicated to their goals and continue working hard despite the challenges they face in the field.
Acknowledging Industrial Action and Hope for Resolution
Regarding the recent industrial action declared by the GRNMA to compel their employer to fulfil the conditions of the service agreement, the DCE acknowledged the impact on healthcare delivery. He expressed hope that the employer would address the Association’s concerns while healthcare services continued.
